CUT THE FEED!

Thursday, February 4th, 2010

On Monday, John Stuart let us in on what Fox News anchors were really saying when they interrupted the President’s Q & A with the GOP:

We’re gonna cut away because…this is against the narrative that we present.

I don’t know exactly how fox news is produced. I can just imagine that at some point they realized this event violated the prime directive causing what I can only assume is a typically sendentary network exec to pack a years worth of exercise into one feverish run down the hall shouting “CUT THE FEED!”

You tell ‘em, Prez!

Monday, February 1st, 2010

Watching the President school the GOP on everything from financial reform to health care to taxes was simply wonderful.

My second favorite quote:

So all I’m saying is, we’ve gotta close the gap a little bit between the rhetoric and the reality. I’m not suggesting that we’re gonna agree on everything, whether it’s on health care or energy or what have you. But if the way these issues are being presented by the Republicans is that this is some wild-eyed plot to impose huge government in every aspect of our lives, what happens is you guys don’t have a lot of room to negotiate with me. The fact is that many of you, if you voted with the administration on something, are politically vulnerable with your own base in your own party. You’ve given yourselves very little room to work in a bipartisan fashion because what you’ve told your constituents is this guy is doing all kinds of crazy stuff that’s gonna destroy America.

Exactly. But my absolute favorite is simple, yet says it all:

You know, I’m having fun, this is great.

It was fun watching, Mr. President. Keep it up!

GOP Does Not Take National Security Seriously

Wednesday, December 30th, 2009

Anyone still holding onto the delusion that the Republican Party is genuinely concerned about national security need only look to the recent antics of Sen. Jim DeMint (R-SC) to know the ugly truth.

DeMint is blocking the confirmation of a Transportation Security Administration Administrator because of a question about nominee Errol Southers’ position on collective-bargaining.

Let’s reflect. On Christmas Day, a flight bound for Detroit, Michigan was almost blown up with explosive chemicals and 300 lives were nearly lost. Our President is behaving respectfully and appropriately, admitting that it was a “systemic failure” and taking steps to assess and then fix the problem.

Republicans like DeMint, on the other hand, are using it as an opportunity to gain political ground by criticizing the President for his word choices and forcing the country to go without a director of the TSA – the agency responsible for flight safety and security.

Americans who are serious about the safety of this country support the ethical and efficient operation of the agencies designed to protect us and the leadership of a President who will take the situation – and our lives – seriously.
