Health Care for America Now California is stepping up its efforts to bring about health care reform before the Easter Congressional break and they’re calling on Senators Feinstein and Boxer to lead the way.
Join HCAN as they urge Boxer and Feinstein to support a health care reform bill with the following characteristics:
- Eliminates or significantly reduces the so-called excise tax on higher cost health plans
- Improves affordability through the exchange
- Fills the “donut hole” for Medicare/Medi-Cal recipients
- Requires employers to contribute their fair share to employee coverage
- Substantial improvements to the Medicaid program
- Creates a national exchange that includes a public option
Three months ago, Senator Joe Lieberman voiced his support for a Medicare buy-in as a compromise in the public option debate. Two days ago, he announced, not only his opposition, but his determination to defeat any bill with a Medicare buy-in at all costs.
His preoccupation with his own self-interest is crystal clear in his willingness to lie to his own constituency and reverse course on an endorsement just 3 months after making it. He clearly does not respect the voters enough to be truthful. And he obviously doesn’t care about the issue enough to be consistent.
He is simply a dirty, lying politician who acts for himself no matter what the cost to others.
His flip flop may well cost the American people health care reform, but it contributes to a much more general, but equally dangerous, problem: the erosion of trust. Government cannot function without the trust of the people. And, in a country where the governor of Texas advocates succession and the previous President lied to the world to justify a war that has cost so many lies, America cannot afford to lose anymore trust in its leaders.
Therefore, we must elect trustworthy leaders. And we must purge those who violate our trust. Senate Democrats should revoke his Senate Chairpersonship.

Attention all LA-based folks in support of health care reform! Dolores Huerta, co-founder of United Farm Workers of America, life long social justice activist and president of the Dolores Huerta Foundation, is headlining a Health Care Reform open forum this Thursday, November 12 at 12 noon at Our Lady Queen of Angels Church.
Community organizers, religious leaders and politicians, including California Senator Barbara Boxer, will be joining Huerta at this incredibly important event. In addition to mobilizing for the next health care battle in the Senate, community members will be able to voice their feelings about many issues, including the recent devastating EXCLUSION of undocumented peoples from health care reform. The event will also serve as an opportunity to strategize for health care and immigration reform and to discuss the needs of the diverse communities of Los Angeles and the country as a whole.
