By driving up the deficit by spending more and cutting taxes, you can rationalize why "socialist" services like social security and medicare need to be cut to balance the budget. Basically, Republicans hope to bankrupt the country in order to kill social programs. Throw grandma and her social security check under the bus. I can imagine few horrors worse than watching a nation full of old people starving in the streets, but that is another sign of the "compassionate" conservative, always trying to find another way to rationalize greed.
